IPL Pro & Single Mother Of Three Kimberly Hartley’s Secrets To Success
INTERVIEW BY BEN YOSEF | IMAGES BY MICHAEL BROOKS
Kimberly Hartley has achieved so much across three contests in fifteen months. She first touched down on the IPL stage at the April 2019 1ST Annual Sunshine State Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
At that contest she placed a very impressive 2nd in Bikini Masters 40+. Five months later she would return to the IPL stage. This time at the Florida Pro/Am, also in Daytona Beach. And this time Kimberly would add another division. Figure Masters 40+, where she took 1st place, earning her IPL Pro Qualification. In addition, she would land another 2nd place finish in Bikini Masters 40+. Then in July of 2020 Kimberly would return to the IPL Florida stage, once again earning 2nd place in Bikini Masters 40+.
Amazing accomplishments for any athlete, especially one who is a mother of three! Always intrigued by the stories behind athletes, it is even more compelling when they are mothers. I was quite curious about how Kimberly balances it all.
BEN YOSEF: Congratulations to you on all of your success on the IPL stage! Three shows in just one year. How are you feeling about what you have achieved in these competitions?
KIMBERLY HARTLEY: For those who know me personally…to say it is hard for me to find words is quite funny. For me, each time on stage brought a deeper understanding of self. Parts of me that were tucked away surfaced and it fascinated me what came up. So, to sum it up, I am proud of the package I presented on “game day”. I learned that it was a mental awakening and I am looking forward to a game changing performance on the fourth.
BEN: Fantastic! So, you are a mother of three…what are the ages of your children?
KIMBERLY: My oldest son is 23, middle son is 17 and my daughter is 16.
BEN: Do they all live at home with you?
KIMBERLY: My youngest two do. They are still in high school. A senior and a junior. My oldest son does not. He graduated from Flagler College and is now playing professional soccer in Orlando, Florida.
BEN: Congratulations on raising what sound like productive and active children. Your oldest son, being a professional athlete, is obviously into sports and fitness. What about your high school kids?
“I cannot articulate enough the growth for myself and my family…Each one of my children has grown so much in watching me through each show.”
KIMBERLY: My middle son is a senior this year and is top in his class with a gpa (weighted) of 4.75 and is applying to Columbia University. My daughter (youngest) is a junior and is a self-taught guitar, bass and saxophone player. She wont admit it, but the first show I did in April 2019, her grades improved while I did my show prep. Her seeing me focus and being consistent made a big difference. She now goes to the gym with me.
I cannot articulate enough the growth for myself and my family. I am truly honored that you picked me to be in SEAM Magazine. Thank you. Each one of my children has grown so much in watching me through each show. You really have put together such a beautiful atmosphere in this sport. I look forward to the next show. Maybe APEX in November?
BEN: Wow! This is all so amazing! You must feel so blessed and proud! Thank you for sharing some of your story with me and this magazine. I am honored to have you in the league and can’t wait to see you back on that stage!
